The client was keen to create a low maintenance, but attractive, outside space. There was a particular requirement to provide some shade to the back of the house. The solution was to construct a pergola which was planted with deciduous climbers to give shade in the summer, but not to make the house too dark in the winter. The client had a lovely sculpture which was carefully postioned to ensure that it would be visible from the main rooms in the house, as well as from the terrace. A large water bowl formed a focal point in the centre of the lawn, which was surrounded by planted borders.
